Kevin Doyle and Marc Wilson withdraw from Ireland squad

Injury problems mount ahead of Serbia friendly as Giovanni Trapattoni is dealt a further blow with Kevin Doyle and Marc Wilson suffering injuries
Wolves striker Kevin Doyle and Stoke City midfielder Marc Wilson have withdrawn from the Ireland squad ahead of the friendly game against Serbia due to take place on August 15.

The pair failed to report at Dublin yesterday with Doyle said to be suffering with a bruised leg while Wilson has been ruled out due to a viral infection.

Norwich City were contacted about the availability of Anthony Pilkington for the fixture, but the winger is struggling with a hamstring complaint, while Ipswich Town defender Damien Delaney has been called up as defensive cover in the absence of Marc Wilson.

Everton midfielder Darron Gibson was earlier forced to pull out of the squad after he sustained a thigh muscle tear and his replacement, Wes Hoolahan, could not accept the call up due to an Achilles 'flare up.

Meanwhile, both Keith Treacy and Stephen Ward will have injury concerns assessed by the Irish team doctor, who will judge their fitness, with a decision to be announced later today.

Giovanni Trapattoni's Boys in Green will play Serbia in Belgrade on Wednesday August 15.
