Wes Hoolahan turns down Ireland call

Wes Hoolahan turns down Ireland call

Latest Dundalk awarded conditional Premier Division licence for 2013 League of Ireland season Previous
11 Aug 2012 07:01:00

The 30-year-old had been drafted in as a replacement for Darron Gibson but injury means he will play no part in Belgrade

Wes Hoolahan is 'unable' to answer Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni's call up for the friendly against Serbia in Belgrade due to injury.

The Norwich City midfielder has suffered an achilles 'flare up' and cannot therefore replace the injured Darron Gibson in the squad for Wednesday's encounter.

Hoolahan was drafted by Trapattoni on Friday evening as a replacement for the Everton man and has not played for his country since 2008.

The FAI disclosed that Hoolahan was 'disappointed' to be ruled out but that this period requires 'rest' with the English Premier League season on the horizon.
