Dublin venue Tallaght Stadium will host its first League Cup Final next month when Shamrock Rovers meet Drogheda United
The final of the EA Sports Cup will be played at Tallaght Stadium on Saturday 22nd September with a kick off time of 5.45pm.The decision to play the game at the home of Shamrock Rovers comes after the Hoops and the other finalist Drogheda United came to a mutual agreement. The match will also be televised live on Setanta Sports.
The competition is in its 39th year and sees 22 sides from the League of Ireland battle it out for cup glory. Derry City are the defending champions but were knocked out in the quarter-finals by Sligo Rovers.
Shamrock Rovers are aiming for just their second league cup crown and have overcome St. Patrick’s Athletic and Limerick FC in the knock-out stages to progress to the final, while Mick Cooke’s Drogheda will be hoping to round of a fantastic season with some silverware.
In the event of the scores being level after 90 minutes of play, extra-time of 30 minutes will be played, followed by a penalty shoot-out if required to determine the winner.
As a result of Shamrock Rovers reaching the final, their Airtricity League Premier Division fixture away to St Patrick’s Athletic scheduled for Friday, 21 September, will now take place on Tuesday, 25 September.
