Blackburn striker Leon Best out for six months

Rovers' hopes of securing an instant return to the Premier League have been dealt a blow with the news that the Republic of Ireland international will be out until after Christmas.
New Blackburn Rovers striker Leon Best has been ruled out for six months with a knee injury picked up in his side's 2-1 match with AEK Athens on Sunday.

Best joined Rovers on July 2 for a fee in excess of £3 million, but was stretched off in the first-half following a challenge from an AEK defender.

The former Newcastle forward went for scans on Monday morning, which confirmed that he has suffered cruciate ligament damage.

The injury is a massive blow to Rovers boss Steve Kean, who had earlier witnessed Best score one and tee up another new signing, Portugese forward Nuno Gomes, to score as Blackburn ran out 2-1 winners.
