The draw for the last four of the 2012 EA Sports Cup has been made, offering up two enticing games with First Division side Limerick travelling to Tallaght to face Shamrock Rovers
The draw for the semi-finals of the EA Sports Cup was made this evening on RTE’s MNS with Shamrock Rovers drawn at home to First Division side Limerick while it’s an all Premier Division clash in the other semi as Drogheda host Sligo Rovers.
Pat Scully’s Limerick are currently second in the First Division and have already eliminated Cork City and Bray Wanderers on their way to the last four. The Jackman Park club have won the League Cup three times, with their last success coming in 2000/01 but the Blues will have an uphill task if they want to lift the trophy for the fourth time.
The pressure continues to build on Hoops boss Stephen Kenny after an indifferent league campaign to date but the former Derry tactician will want to win over the fans by bringing more silverware to Tallaght on this competition could be the perfect opportunity.
Meanwhile, Drogheda United will look to get to their second League Cup final when they take on the 2010 winners Sligo Rovers at Hunky Dorys Park. Mick Cooke’s side narrowly defeated rivals Dundalk on penalties in the last round while the Bit O’Red easily got past Derry City thanks to a 4-0 victory.
The games will take place on Monday 6th August.
