New Bit O'Red manager has been impressed with the Students and anticipates a tough game at the ShowgroundsSligo Rovers will not have an easy passage to three points against UCD on Saturday night according to new boss Ian Baraclough.
The Bit O'Red are hot favourites with bookies pricing them at 1/3 on to defeat their Dublin visitors in the Airtricity Premier Division. Rovers needed a late goal to secure a point against Shelbourne last week while UCD turned over Cork City 1-0.
Sligo manager Ian Baraclough said: “We had a good win on Monday night against Glentoran [in the Setanta Sports Cup] and it gives confidence, not just from the result, but also by the way we played. I’ve watched Martin Russell’s side and they will pass the ball and attack us. They do not change for anyone and they will not fear coming down to Sligo.”
The Showgrounds has long been a fortress for Sligo and they have won their last four games at home against UCD. In each of the last three games they have put four goals past the Students in comfortable wins.
UCD boss Martin Russell is expecting a difficult game. He said: "Sligo will be as tough a challenge as ever. The fact is that they have the nucleus of the team from last season. They know each other’s game, anyone going to the Showground’s this year is going to have a test.”
Rovers have doubts over Raffaele Cretaro, Iarfhlaith Davoren and Jason McGuinness due to minor niggles. Mark Quigley is suspended and new signing Pascal Millien will not be available in time as the club await his work permit.
UCD are without injured trio Gary Burke, Samir Belhout and Tomas Boyle while Mark Langtry is a doubt. Paul Corry still remains a doubt with Russell awaiting scan results before making a decision on selection. Graham Rusk has returned to fitness.
