Benitez looks set to take over at Serie A club Napoli after taking charge of his final game as boss of the Blues on Saturday evening at Yankee Stadium in New York.
The former Liverpool boss' appointment in west London was deeply unpopular with the Chelsea fans but Luiz has paid tribute to the 53-year-old after he delivered the Europa League title and qualification for the Champions League.
"If you can be professional when everything is against you, that is amazing," Luiz told The Sun. "We won the Europa League and qualified for the Champions League because he is a fantastic coach.
"I learned a lot with him. When you win another European title, of course it’s a good season."
