The Manchester City striker is hoping to play against his friend, who is in "fantastic form" on New Year's Day, and has backed the Stoke man to earn a move to a "bigger team"
The Bosnian striker is hoping to face his friend when the two sides meet on New Year's Day, but admits that if he does start it will be a difficult match with the Stoke goalkeeper in "fantastic form".
"I am hoping to play against Stoke, not only because I'm good in the air but because I can score goals," Dzeko told reporters.
"It will be a tough game, especially against my good friend Asmir. He is in fantastic form.
"Stoke have the best keeper in the league. I knew him before he came to play for the national team.
"I know him better than most people because I have trained with him and [he] is a great keeper who will go on and play for a bigger team."
Manchester City host Stoke on New Year's Day, while title rivals Manchester United face a trip to Wigan, as they sit seven points clear at the top of the table.
