The Serbia international missed out on the European final in May after a yellow card from the same referee who will officiate on Sunday against Corinthians, but bears no grudges

Branislav Ivanovic is hoping winning the Fifa Club World Cup against Corinthians will help him overcome the pain of being suspended for Chelsea's victorious Champions League final against Bayern Munich in May.

The Serbia international missed out after picking up a yellow card against Barcelona in the semi-final - and the same referee Cuynet Cakir will take charge of the London side's final on Sunday morning.

However, the 28-year-old insists he is ready to take his chance against the Brazilian side and taste glory with the club after the misery of missing out on the side's European success.

"Maybe in one part, this will make up for missing Munich," he told reporters.

"I can be a little bit more happy here than before when I couldn't help the team like the other players who didn't play. This is my chance."

Ivanovic said he would trade the medal for the minutes on the pitch against Bayern Munich, and revealed the tough personal challenges that missing out on such a big game caused for him.

He continued: "I would always change the medal for the chance to have played in that final.

"I still don't like to think about what happened. After the Barcelona game, all the way through to the Champions League Final, there were a lot of things going through my head.

"Of course I just had to be professional, focused, motivating myself to help my team-mates to prepare for the game. But it was also difficult personally.

"After the final I tried to forget this period from the semi-final to the final."

The defender admitted the Club World Cup is different from the Champions League in terms of knowing the opposition, but suggested the disappointment of crashing out in the group stages of Europe this year would drive the side on to success in Japan: "You play teams which you don't know very well from different cultures and different continents.

"But this is the chance for all of us to prove one more time we deserved to win the Champions League [last May]. We have huge motivation after being eliminated from the Champions League [this season].

"I know and I feel the atmosphere in the team is we are ready. That is the most important thing," he added.
