The 29-year-old striker is ready to take on his former employers and inflict damage on the side he captained last season, according to his Manchester United team-mates

Robin van Persie is ready to put his former side Arsenal to the sword when they visit Manchester United on Saturday, his new team-mates believe.

The 29-year-old has already hit nine goals for the Red Devils since his £24 million (€30m) summer switch broke Gunners fans' hearts and winger Antonio Valencia warns Arsenal to expect more of the same.

He told The Sun: "Van Persie is a big forward. No one can question his quality or experience of the game in England. He merged quickly into our system and has maintained his great record but this week I've noticed how focused he has been.

"Robin has been 100 per cent professional from day one but there is no doubt facing Arsenal is a very special match for him.

"I am convinced he is heading for a big day."

The Dutchman is expected to receive a hostile reception from the travelling Arsenal fans at Old Trafford, something which United central defender Rio Ferdinand has dealt with throughout his career and he says that the forward is experienced enough to deal with it.

"It is hard," Ferdinand told the the club's official website, "but Robin's experienced enough to put it to one side, get on with it and play the game.

"You just have to treat it like any other game. That's the difficult thing: trying to make it normal when everyone around is trying to make it into something it isn't."
