The Greens defender believes his side can still reach the group stages of the UEFA Champions League, despite losing 2-0 in the first leg of the tie

Jean Alain-Boumsong believes Panathinaikos can progress to the UEFA Champions League group stages by beating Malaga at the Olympic Stadium on August 28.

The Greek club lost the first leg 2-0 at La Roselada, but despite being thoroughly outplayed for the large majority of the game, the French defender believes a passionate home crowd can roar them to victory.

"You saw the opportunities we had in the closing stages of the game," Boumsong told

"Those chances will act as a source of optimism for us on Tuesday. Let's hope that we create more goalscoring moments at home where we must also look to be more successful in executing our own game plan."

"If we are 1-0 up after an hour you never know, maybe we could snatch one towards the end to take the tie to extra time or even penalties. In any case the most important thing for us is to score. If we manage that, let's see what happens afterwards."
