thumbnail Hello,

The Selecao coach has urged his side to emerge victorious in June 2014's showpiece event and has played down concerns about striker Fred

Luiz Felipe Scolari has insisted that failure is not an option for Brazil at next year's World Cup.

The tournament will be hosted in the country for the second time in its history following the 1950 edition where the Selecao reached the final before succumbing to rivals Uruguay 2-1.

The five-time World Cup winners, who kick off their tournament against Croatia in Group A on June 12, know that another unsuccessful attempt will not go down well with the hosts fans' and Scolari is determined to ensure it will not happen under his watch.

"If we are playing in Brazil there is no other way: we have to win the World Cup," Scolari told reporters.

"I am not afraid to say that because that is the message I want my players to understand. Brazil are going to win [the World Cup].

"I still have doubts about the team, but we have six months to work it out."

Felipao says he is unconcerned by Fluminense striker Fred's fitness problems this season. The 30-year-old has made only nine league appearances, scoring three goals in the process following an impressive Confederations Cup tournament in the summer.

"I'm not worried about Fred's injury, for example, because we have lots of time," Scolari continued. "My main concern is that - in May - we suffer an injury.

"The final squad is not decided yet, but I will decide that with [assistant Flavio] Murtosa and [technical director Carlos Alberto] Parreira."
