The Heracles midfielder is finally eligible to play for the Indomitable Lions after Cameroon's FA supplied Fifa with documentation to complete the administrative procedure
Fifa has officially certified Willie Overtoom's switch of nationality from the Netherlands to Cameroon, meaning that he is now eligible to play for the Indomitable Lions.
Negotiations between Fifa and the Cameroonian Football Federation (Fecafoot) to complete the 25-year-old midfielder's switch of nationality had been blocked as the governing body demanded more proof of the player’s Cameroonian roots. Overtoom had played for the Netherlands in all the youth categories but is today poised to defend the colours of Cameroon after Fecafoot supplied Fifa with the necessary documentation.
This follows David Ngog's decision to join the Indomitable Lions after playing at all levels of France's junior national teams and shunning invitiations to join Cameroon before being persuaded by coach Denis Lavagne and Arsenal midfielder Alexandre Song to complete his nationality switch and embrace his west African heritage.
