The 23-year-old was delighted with his last-gasp winner at the weekend as La Paillade are now on the brink of securing the Ligue 1 title

Montpellier winger Karim Ait-Fana has hailed his strike against Lille on Sunday as the most important goal of the season.

The 23-year-old bagged a last-minute winner to secure a vital victory for Montpellier, who are just a solitary point away from securing the club's first ever Ligue 1 title.

“This wasn't the best goal of the season,” the former France Under-21 international told RMC Sport. “ But it's certainly the most important.

This is a goal that moves us forward towards the championship. I just hope there will be another one next weekend against Auxerre.

As we saw in the English Premier League, the title goes all the way down to the final moments; I just hope we don't lose it like that.”

Ait-Fana has made 10 Ligue 1 appearances for Montpellier this season, contributing two goals and an assist.
