Les Parisiens' boss has admitted that he will have to praise MHSC if they go on to win the title this weekend, but admits he is not thinking about that possibility
Paris Saint-Germain coach Carlo Ancelotti has conceded that he will have to congratulate Montpellier should they go on to win the league this coming Sunday, but admits that his side are not concentrating on La Paillade going into the final round of games.
The Italian tactician was speaking after his side's comfortable 3-0 win over Stade Rennais on Sunday, where a hat-trick from Nene was not enough to close the gap at the top of the table to Rene Girard's team.
“If Montpellier do go on to win the league then we have to congratulate them,” Ancelotti said in his post-match press conference. “Our aim now is to win the next match and then see what Montpellier do. They've got a lot of possibilities of winning but we mustn't think about them.
“We have to be happy as we're going to play Champions League football next season and that was an important objective for the club.
“My side have a good identity and the good work that we've put in this season will help us next year. The objective has been obtained, and next season will be more exciting.”
Ancelotti then praised his team after their resounding win over Les Rouges et Noirs, and went on to preview this weekend's crunch game with Lorient.
“We played well. We were solid defensively and we controlled them. Up front our attackers did a lot of things with Nene scoring a hat-trick, while Jeremy Menez had a fantastic game and [Javier] Pastore supported them well.
“We must think only about the Lorient game. It won't be easy to play on a synthetic pitch against a side that need points in order to confirm their Ligue 1 survival.”
Montpellier go into their final game of the season at Auxerre needing just a draw to beat PSG to the Ligue 1 title.
