Bayern Munich director of football Matthias Sammer has lashed out at those currently criticising coach Pep Guardiola.
The Catalan trainer arrived at the Allianz Arena to much fanfare on account of his fantastic feats during his time in charge of Barcelona but, despite a decent start to his tenure, which has included a Uefa Super Cup triumph over Chelsea, some pundits believe that the new boss is tinkering too much with the side that won a treble last season.
Sammer, though, is at pains to point out that Guardiola has been brought in with the aim of achieving long-term success within a clearly defined and sustainable style of play.
"I think some remarks about Pep have been incorrect because if you analysed last season in detail, it is an idealisation of the past to say that everything was perfect," the former Germany international told Kicker.
"The way we played was not sufficient for the future. [Guardiola was] chosen for strategic reasons. We must give him time."
Guardiola took a year-long sabbatical from the game after a hugely successful four-year stint at Camp Nou that featured two Champions League triumphs.
