Monchengladbach will mount a serious assault on the Bundesliga, warns Stevens

The Dutchman believes that Die Fohlen can tip the balance of power in the German top flight next season after an impressive transfer campaign
Schalke coach Huub Stevens has warned that Borussia Monchengladbach are a threat that must be taken seriously next season.

Lucien Favre led Gladbach to a fourth-place finish last term as they qualified for the preliminary stages of the Champions League, and have now spent the summer reinforcing the squad.

In addition to acquiring highly-rated youngsters Alvaro Dominguez and Granit Xhaka, Monchengladbach have also completed the capture of Twente forward Luuk De Jong.

"This could be Borussia Monchengladbach's year," Stevens predicted to Sport 1. "We'll have to see how they cope with European competition though."

Gladbach will discover who they will play in the qualifying round of Champions League fixtures on August 10.
