Huntelaar and Metzelder criticise Raul after derby miss

The Netherlands forward and Germany defender lambasted their experienced team-mate after his crucial miss in the derby game defeat against BVB at the weekend

Spain forward Raul has been criticised by team-mates Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and Christoph Metzelder after the experienced Spaniard ignored an unmarked Jefferson Farfan before missing a glorious opportunity in Schalke's 2-1 loss to Dortmund on Saturday.

With Die Knappen 1-0 up against their bitter rivals, Raul instigated a three-on-two attack, with Farfan in a clear goalscoring position. The former Madrid man though, refused to pick out the Peruvian, and went for glory himself, eventually missing the target.

And after the game, both Huntelaar and Metzelder were not afraid of speaking out against their veteran team mate: “I think he should have played the pass,” the Dutch striker told Bild, “Farfan was all alone. It was an important moment in the game, and unfortunately it didn't turn out to be 2-0.”

Metzelder meanwhile, said: “He immediately jumped to his decision. Had he waited a moment, he certainly would have seen that two players had made a run."

Raul has been the subject of constant speculation recently with his contract set to expire at the end of the season, and the Bundesliga club worried about his high wage demands.
