Inter can compete with anyone, claims Stramaccioni
The Nerazzurri boss believes his side have the potential to beat any team in the world, but feels their lack of consistency has let them down this season
Inter coach Andrea Stramaccioni believes his team can compete with anyone on their day, but accepts that they need to showcase their best form on a consistent basis. The Nerazzurri are currently seven points behind table-toppers Juventus, and their trainer feels that if his team had shown more consistency, they might be in a better position now.
"I often say that when talking about us, but we mustn't let ourselves be affected by where the leaders are because we have our own path to follow," the 37-year-old was quoted as saying by the club's official website.
"In a single game we've shown that we can compete with anyone.
"But we must admit that others have been more consistent than we have. Inter need to be more consistent in the second half of the campaign both in terms of results and performances, and I think we're on the right path.
Regarding additions to the squad, the coach stressed that there is a possibility for big signings, but only if key players leave the Guiseppe Meazza.
"I said that because I don’t like misleading our fans. In my opinion, unless there are any significant departures there won't be any big signings. If a few players move on then anything is possible."
Finally, Stramaccioni promised to take the Coppa Italia seriously this season with a tie with Bologna looming on the horizon.
"I think Inter treat the Coppa Italia with due respect. It's a competition we want to win just like the title and the Europa League, so we'll be looking to go as far as possible.
"It's a game we must be fully focused for and we're taking it very seriously. So we have maximum respect for them but we want to go through to the semis."
