The former Udinese star has been struggling to find his best form this season and has been heavily criticised for his underwhelming performances, but the Spain midfielder has stressed that the attacker cannot be blamed for a lack of effort.
"A couple of weeks ago, Alexis scored two goals and now there are doubts about him for his performance in the Copa match against Malaga," he was quoted as saying by AS.
"In training, he is one of the players who always gives the most, who runs the most. In our matches, he creates chances for the team because he is constantly running from one end of the pitch to the other.
"He is one of the most committed and dedicated players at the club and you cannot take him to task for that."
Alexis has netted three goals in 23 official appearances this term.
