Southampton in talks with Ronald Koeman, says brother's agent

Southampton are in talks to appoint Ronald Koeman as their new manager, their prospective new assistant boss’s agent has confirmed.

The former Feyenoord coach is keen on the Saints, who lost Mauricio Pochettino to Tottenham earlier this summer, and is in line to bring his brother, Erwin, with him to St Mary’s Stadium as his No.2.

"It's correct that there are talks," Cees Ploegsma, agent to Erwin Koeman, told Voetbal International. "They want Ronald to be manager and his brother Erwin as his assistant."

Ronald's representative, Guido Albers, added that his client, who has previous coached the likes of Ajax, Benfica and Valencia, would suit the "ambitious" south-coast side.

"Ronald wants to make a next step in his career at an ambitious club with possibilities," he explained.

"Southampton fits in that profile. Pochettino made a solid base and Ronald is the ideal candidate to build the squad from there."

The Saints finished eighth in the Premier League in 2013-14, recording their highest points tally in the division on the way.
