thumbnail Hello,

The 20-year-old joined the Ligue 1 side on a five-year deal with week after being advised against a move to Carlo Ancelotti's Liga giants

New Monaco signing Geoffrey Kondogbia has revealed he was put off a transfer to Real Madrid this summer after being convinced it would be "too risky" to fight for first-team football in the Spanish capital.

The 20-year-old midfielder signed a five-year deal with the big-spending Ligue 1 outfit this week after being dissuaded from a switch to Carlo Ancelotti's side and he admits he is now eager to endear himself to the French public.

"When it [a move to Madrid] was mentioned, the conditions for a transfer were not met. And afterwards, I spoke with some people who know football very well, and they told me it would be a risk for me [to move there]," he was quoted as saying by L'Equipe.

"There was a risk I wouldn't play much there, that's obvious. But it's not only that.

"I'm super-happy to come back to France and to get to know the French supporters. Those who watch La Liga on TV know me, but not others."

Kondogbia, who won the Under-20 World Cup this summer, spent only one season in Spain with Sevilla after joining from Lens last summer.
