The Blaugrana have informed the goalkeeper that they are keen to open talks over a contract extension, but Valdes recently stated that he would be interested in playing in another league at some point in the future.
However, the shot stopper has yet to make a final decision on his future, and Zubizarreta remains hopeful that he will stay at his current club.
"Victor Valdes has not told us that he wants to leave the club. We have not discussed a contract renewal yet with his agent, but we sat down to talk about some other things," Zubizarreta told reporters.
"We will open talks when the time is right. We have a lot of love for Victor Valdes and we want him to stay at this club."
The 31-year-old's current deal with Barca runs until June 2014.
