The Belgian left the Eredivisie champions this summer to sample the Premier League with Tottenham, and the Amsterdam club had earmarked AZ centre-back Niklas Moisander as his replacement.
However, their interest in Moisander has cooled due to €6 million price tag placed on the Finn, and the Dutch giants are now considering making a move for Barcelona 'B' star Muniesa.
"The interest in Muniesa is correct, but nothing is yet decided," Overmars said according to De Telegraaf.
Muniesa has represented Spain at Under-21 level on two occasions, and made 24 league appearances for Barcelona's second string team last term.
