Roberto Mancini's side are looking at Montepellier's talented Moroccan playmaker as a fall-back option should they fail to sign the in-demand Lille man this summerManchester City have lined up Montpellier attacker Younes Belhanda as a back-up option, should Lille winger Eden Hazard decide against moving to the Etihad Stadium, according to the Daily Mail.
Roberto Mancini is believed to want to tie up most of his summer deals as soon as possible and is becoming frustrated with the lack of movement involved in the Belgium international's transfer, with wages reportedly the stumbling block.
The 21-year-old Lille star is also wanted by rivals Manchester United, among others, and was in attendance at the Manchester derby on April 30.
However, Belhanda is now being sounded out as an alternative.
The Moroccan international has scored 12 goals in the French club’s unlikely challenge for Ligue 1, being shortlisted for various Player of the Year awards, and could be available for a fraction of the price of the £30 million-rated Belgian.
Belhanda can play on either wing, or just off a main striker, similarly to Hazard, and has been likened to current City player Samir Nasri.
