The player’s representative thinks the Geordies are a ‘fantastic club’ and has revealed his client would be interested in talking to them if they decide to rekindle their interest
The Netherlands international was reportedly close to sealing a move to Alan Pardew’s outfit last year as a replacement for left-back Jose Enrique following his departure to Liverpool, only to see the transfer fall through.
Pieters is currently sidelined for the rest of the season with a foot injury and his representative has revealed his client is focused on regaining his fitness in time for Euro 2012, but would be willing to discuss a move should Newcastle approach him.
"He was interested last year," agent Piet van der Pol told The Journal.
"Newcastle United is a fantastic club and I know that Erik follows them because of his friendship with Tim Krul.
"If they come in for Erik of course he will be interested in talking to them, but right now the main thing that he is focused on is getting fit for Euro 2012.
"Newcastle have done tremendously this season and I know that there are a lot of players who would like to join them."
