Barcelona have begun their charm offensive in the pursuit of Liverpool striker Luis Suarez as what is set to be this summer's biggest transfer saga gathers pace.
Goal understands Liverpool will refuse to allow the sale of Suarez for less than the release clause in his contract, which is believed to stand between £60 million and £80m.
But Barcelona are still expected to table a sizeable bid for the Urugay international, despite the striker being hit with a four month ban for biting Giorgio Chiellini - his third suspension for such an offence.
The Catalan club's sporting director, Andoni Zubizarreta, spoke publicly of his admiration for Suarez at the unveiling of new signing Ivan Rakitic.
"I think Luis Suarez did the best thing as a person and I also think as a footballer," Zubizarreta said. "What path he now takes, whether he stays at Liverpool or goes somewhere else, we will see.
"But at the moment he's a Liverpool player that's the reality. I have to say the statement does him a lot of honour."
A delegation from the Camp Nou outfit are reportedly set to meet Liverpool chief executive Ian Ayre for talks on Wednesday.
But should Liverpool part ways with their prize asset if Barca come close to matching their valuation of a striker who scored 31 league goals last season?
Should Liverpool sell Suarez, or wait for their hand to be forced by Barcelona activating the player's release clause?
