Pablo Barrientos could be on his way out of Catania in the January transfer window as Napoli have shown an interest in signing the attacker, Goal.com understands.

The Partenopei are looking to add some more depth to their attack in order to be able to compete on several fronts, and they see the 27-year-old Barrientos as a valuable addition to their squad.

Barrientos has developed into a key player at the Sicilians since returning from a loan spell at Estudiantes in 2011, but Catania are unimpressed with the attacker's poor attitude, and are ready to let go of him if a good offer comes in.

Napoli want to sign Barrientos on a six-month loan deal with an option to make the deal permanent at the end of the season for a fee of €6 million.

The Europa League hopefuls could even send Eduardo Vargas the other way on a temporary basis in order to convince Catania to let go of Barrientos.

Vargas has been unable to secure regular first-team action at Napoli since joining the club a year ago, and they could be tempted to farm him out on loan in order to gain valuable experience elsewhere.

Barrientos is under contract with Catania until the summer of 2015.
