The former Leeds United youth has opted to sign for Kenny Shiels' side ahead of the 2017 campaign, leaving his hometown club

Derry City have announced the signing of Eric Grimes from Cork City ahead of the upcoming League of Ireland season.

The 21-year-old is a Republic of Ireland youth international and will move north after spending the 2016 season with his hometown club Cork.

Grimes began his professional career at English Championship club Leeds United and was on the fringes of the first-team at Elland Road, featuring on the bench at the beginning of 2016.

However, he opted to return to Ireland, joining Cork in July 2016, but he failed to make a competitive appearance for the club.

Grimes is Derry's second new signing ahead of the 2017 season, following the capture of Mark TImlin from St Patrick's Athletic.
