Shane Keegan continues to assemble his squad ahead of the 2017 season, tying down a "fan favourite" and a player with bags of potential
Jesse Devers and Gary Shanahan will remain at Galway United in 2017 after the club announced that the pair signed new contracts with the club.
Midfielder Shanahan was ever-present for Galway during the last two seasons, featuring in every single league game. The 23-year-old joined the Tribesmen in 2014 from Mervue United and has gone on to make 90 league appearances, scoring 12 goals.
“I think Gary is rightly somewhat of a fan favourite," said Galway manager Shane Keegan. "He was almost an ever present in the season just finished and I suppose what any manager would say is that he’s a player that you can absolutely trust.
"He runs himself into the ground, if you give him a job, he goes and does it to the letter. He’s just a really solid footballer and he has a fantastic track record as well in terms of avoiding injuries and suspensions."
Former Wolverhampton Wanderers youth Devers joined Galway in 2016 but struggled to make a breakthrough into the first-team, featuring just four times under Tommy Dunne last term.
However, Shane Keegan is enthusiastic about the 19-year-old's future at the club, believing hm to be "capable of doing great things" with the west-coast club.
"Everybody is absolutely raving about Jesse, saying what he was doing on the training ground and the potential he has," explained the former Wexford Youths boss.
"People are really saying that this is a player that, given an opportunity, and if he goes and really pushes himself next year, is capable of doing great things."
