Brazil midfielder Hernanes is hoping to face Spain rather than Italy in Sunday’s Confederations Cup final.

The 2014 World Cup hosts beat Uruguay 2-1 on Wednesday in order to book their ticket for the showpiece on June 30, with the second semi-final to take place in Fortaleza on Thursday.

“I would prefer to play against Spain [in the final], but we'll see what they do on Thursday,” 28-year-old told Goal.

Hernanes then went on to reflect on his side’s win over the Celeste and hailed the importance of their victory.

“It was a very different sort of game, a true semi-final, because we had to come back at Uruguay and they then came back at us, and us back at them, and so on.

“It was a game that needed our full attention and our team showed a real grit to maintain a hold and to attain the result at the end. It is a truly important performance and result for our growth.”

Brazil have flourished under Felipe Scolari at the Confederations Cup and Hernanes has stressed that the experienced coach has played a key role in their success so far.

“We are having a great time under Scolari, because he came in to work with us in January or February and he has been saying since that we must grow and grow as a squad. And we can see it.

“We look like a team that is maturing and is having a great time because we are enjoying working with him.”

Brazil can become the first team in history to win the Confederations Cup three times in a row if they win Sunday’s final.
