Former Real Madrid defender Ricardo Carvalho has revealed that he rejected offers from several clubs in Dubai in favour of a move to newly-promoted Ligue 1 outfit Monaco as he feels the French league is one of the best in the world.

The 35-year-old had an expiring contract with Madrid and a number of clubs showed an interest in signing him on a free transfer.

However, he eventually opted to continue his career at Monaco, inking a one-year deal with the ambitious French side.

"I had various offers from clubs in Dubai who all wanted to sign me before Monaco approached me," Carvalho told Goal.

"I ignored the offers from Dubai because Monaco are a great club and the French league is one of the best in the world."

Carvalho started his professional career with Porto and also wore the Chelsea jersey before joining Real Madrid in the summer of 2010. He won one Liga title and a Copa del Rey during his three-year spell with the Santiago Bernabeu side.
