Messi walked away with his fourth consecutive Ballon d'Or and the Brazil international is certain that the award went to the right man.
"Nobody can match Messi at the moment. He deserved the prize for what he did last year," Neymar told the press.
The highly-rated 20-year-old, who has been repeatedly linked with a move to join Messi at the Camp Nou, denied speculation suggesting he has already a pre-contractual agreement with Barcelona.
"I have nothing of the kind with Barcelona or any other club. I signed with Santos a contract that will see me stay here until 2014 and I am happy because this is a great club," he continued.
"My aim is to help Santos and the Brazil national team. When my time comes to leave, I promise I will warn everyone. But, its not the right time.
"I have no particular preference for any one club. There are many good clubs around the world."
