Cech warns Chelsea players: Inexperience no excuse for under-performing in Club World Cup

Cech warns Chelsea players: Inexperience no excuse for under-performing in Club World Cup

The Czech Republic international has urged all members of the Blues' squad to take equal responsibility in helping the side out of its recent rut during the tournament in Japan

Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech has challenged the Blues' squad to take responsibility for winning the upcoming Club World Cup.

Rafa Benitez and his squad flew to Japan on Sunday to prepare for the tournament, having recently ended a six-game winless streak with back-to-back victories over Nordsjaelland and Sunderland.

Having added the likes of Oscar, Eden Hazard and Victor Moses over the summer, the Blues' squad boasts far more young players that it has done for a number of seasons and Cech, who has been acting as the team’s stand-in captain recently, has encouraged his team-mates to break their poor run.

"It's easy to say: 'I'm new and young, so I'm looking away from it.' [But] everybody is responsible and has to help the team get out of the situation,” Cech told reporters.

“You can use different words but it's not about how many times you start with the F-words. It's not about that. It's about people who should feel the responsibility for the situation and recognise a responsibility to get out of it.”

The Czech Republic international was, however, keen to stress the value of the experience that the more senior players bring to the squad. He asserted that all the players, not just the captain, should be looking to help each other through tough spells of form.

"You don't need the armband to feel more responsibility,” added the 30-year-old. “It's the same for any player: everybody relies on you. You are the one who tries to help people through the difficult periods. Especially young and new players who haven't been through that situation before.

“This is where your experience can count and you can try to help them. It's not about shouting and screaming, or even harsh words. It's about finding the right balance to remind people where they are, or what you want to achieve, and what we should do to improve.

“But really you just need to find the right way to do it and as soon as we started playing better again and got better results, you could see the confidence in the younger players rising higher, faster.

“Now we want to take the games where we've played very well into this tournament and, if we have success here, we can take it into the Premier League."
