Premier League Team of the Week: Fellaini notches fifth showing amid eight new faces

Premier League Team of the Week: Fellaini notches fifth showing amid eight new faces

Latest Question of the Day: Who will win the Derby della Madonnina? Previous
12 Nov 2012 12:10:00

The likes of John Terry, David Silva and Theo Walcott all come in for their first mentions, with the Everton midfielder drawing level with Juan Mata in TOTW appearances

Are you reading, Juan Mata? It looks like you have competition at the top of the Team of the Week hierarchy.

Marouane Fellaini's goal and assist against Sunderland earned him 'top of the match' with a four-star rating and subsequently takes his place in the heart of this week's midfield.

The Belgium international led by example by guiding Everton to a second-half revival against the Black Cats to register his fifth appearance in just 11 TOTWs.

Elsewhere, we only have two other returnees in the form of West Ham goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen and Ryan Shawcross.

The stop-stopper's "brick-wall levels of unbeatable" display against Newcastle sees Sam Allardyce's men rise to sixth in the Premier League standings after the 1-0 win.

On Saturday, Shawcross was showing similar defensive potency to help Stoke to a narrow 1-0 victory over QPR. The centre-back was solid in the air and delivered some crunching tackles to deny Adel Taraabt when the Moroccan threatened.

So now onto the newbies. There are eight of them in all, and we start with the two stand-out performances over the entire weekend; Chicharito and Dimitar Berbatov.

The Manchester United frontman was introduced at half-time against Aston Villa, with his side 1-0 down. The deficit soon doubled, and the Mexican came to life. Two goals and another shot deflected in by Ron Vlaar completed the comeback inside 30 minutes.

And Berbatov was similarly impressive for Fulham in their 3-3 draw with Arsenal. After scoring his side's first goal, he assisted Alexander Kacaniklic to pull Fulham level before rolling home the penalty for the away side's third.

But that was not the only impressive displays at Emirates Stadium on Saturday, as both Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud got in on the act with the former assisting both the latter's goals with the pair answering recent critics in impressive fashion.

Moving on to Sunday's action, John Terry celebrated his return to the Premier League, following his four-match ban for racially abusing Anton Ferdinand, by scoring his 50th goal for Chelsea to give the home side the lead. His own game did not last long, however, as a nasty-looking clash with Luis Suarez saw the centre-back stretchered off.

In the absence of his usual captain, Chelsea new-boy Cesar Azpilicueta impressed in a rare start as the Blues kept an increasingly dangerous-looking Liverpool side at bay until Suarez's late reaction header.

On the opposing side, Jose Enrique reminded everyone why Liverpool paid £7 million to buy the left-back from Newcastle in one of his most impressive displays since joining last summer. He brought a lot of width down the left flank and brought a much-needed solid base after a nervy opening 45 minutes for his side.

And, finally, we have David Silva. One of last season's most impressive performers, the Spain international has struggled with injuries and form so far this term. However, the midfielder rolled back the months with a sublime chipped pass over the Tottenham backline to free Edin Dzeko for Manchester City's 88th-minute winner.
