The Selecao superstar got a goal and an assist but was bettered by the 19-year-old attacking-midfielder who netted twice in a six-goal thriller with Gremio

Brasileiro: Round 8 Results

Table/Fixtures

Santos 4-2 Gremio

Neymar found the net in his last game before departing to represent Brazil at the Olympics, but it was Felipe Anderson who stole the show as Santos sunk Gremio 4-2.

Following the departures of Borges, Alan Kardec and Wason Renteria, Muricy Ramalho started with 16-year-old Victor Andrade in attack. It looked as though the youngster had a dream start when he set Neymar up for the opening goal early in the second half but it was chalked off for offside. The Peixe did go ahead just before the half-hour mark as Edu Dracena slid in from a loose ball after a poorly directed Neymar header. Eleven minutes later Felipe Anderson found the top corner with a stunning strike from 25 yards to ensure a two-goal margin going into the break.

The goals continued to come for Santos as Neymar headed home from a Felipe Anderson corner in the 62nd minute. Soon after Felipe Anderson notched his second of the night as his set-piece delivery from wide on the left took a nick off Marcelo Moreno and beat Marcelo Grohe at his near post. Santos were unable to keep a clean sheet, though, as Vilson stabbed home after a fortunate ricochet in the area and Marquinhos added another with a thunderous strike from the edge of the box that Rafael had no chance of stopping.

Santos' first win means they rise out of the relegation zone and up to 14th position. Gremio's slide down the table continues as they fall to eighth place.

Internacional 2-1 Cruzeiro

Internacional leapfrogged Cruzeiro with a 2-1 win over the Belo Horizonte club at the Beira-Rio with goals from their two Olympic hopefuls.

Diego Forlan was paraded before the home crowd in the build-up to the game but it did not take long for an already-affirmed fan favourite to really get the crowd going. Just eight minutes into the match Andres D'Alessandro released Oscar, who fired in an exquisite shot at the near post with the outside of his boot to give Inter the lead. Cruzeiro responded well, with both Walter Montillo and Anselmo Ramon having efforts saved comfortably by Muriel, before Willian Magrao saw his 20-yard effort crash against the bar.

However, a quick break in the 37th minute saw the Colorado double their advantage as Dagoberto found Leandro Damiao with a reverse pass and the 22-year-old put a cross-goal finish past Fabio. Cruzeiro should have pulled one back early in the second half but Everton skied his attempt from the six-yard box after Wallyson's cutback. The deficit was eventually halved in spectacular style as Leo produced an acrobatic bicycle kick that found the top corner from close range.

Celso Roth's team were unable to find an equaliser, however, as they fell to sixth position with their second consecutive defeat. Internacional sit just one place above them.

Flamengo 0-1 Fluminense

On the 100th anniversary of the Fla-Flu derby Fluminense bagged all three points, despite never really stepping out of first gear.

Fluzao welcomed back Thiago Neves and Fred to the starting line-up after spells on the sidelines and the duo immediately made an impact, combining for the opening goal. After his free kick was blocked, the ball was worked back out to Thiago Neves on the right. This time he delivered the ball perfectly and Fred darted across the defenders to divert it into the back of the net. From then on Flu sat back, content to let Joel Santana's side have the ball and attempt to trouble them on the break.

The Rubro-Negro however had little creativity when on the ball and so 17-year-old Adryan was brought on for the second half. He had a positive impact but, playing alongside a Vagner Love who became increasingly frustrated by physical defending, it was not until the closing 15 minutes that they came close to drawing level. Adryan sent a bullet header just the wrong side of the post before Marllon hit the woodwork when he got on the end of the corner.

Nevertheless, Abel Braga's team held on for the win against their fierce rivals to take second position, while the pressure on Santana will mount with his side in ninth.

Atletico Mineiro 2-0 Portuguesa

Former AC Milan keeper Dida conceded his first goals since returning to football as Atletico Mineiro brushed Portuguesa aside at the Independencia.

Fluminense's win meant Galo had been momentarily knocked off of top spot but they set about reclaiming their position immediately; within two minutes Jo forced a save from Dida. Ronaldinho then almost put the ball past his former Milan team-mate in the Lusa goal but his free kick sailed narrowly over the bar. But midway through the first-half they found the net as Marcos Rocha drilled a loose ball into the top corner after a poorly-dealt-with corner. The Paulista outfit almost levelled on the stroke of half-time but Victor saved excellently from Andre Luis on his debut.

With just six second-half minutes played Atletico scored their second of the night. Ronaldinho's shot stung the palms of Dida, who could only push the ball to his side where it fell to Leo Silva who rifled in a low shot to capitalise on the keeper's error. Jo and Bernard both saw efforts to try to add to the lead sail well off target and the former Manchester City man also had a shot cleared off the line in the closing stages.

Galo's excellent start to the season now sees them hold a two-point lead at the top of the Brasileiro while Portuguesa stay in the bottom half.

Best of the Rest

Clarence Seedorf was at the Engenhao to witness his new club Botafogo dismantle Bahia with a 3-0 victory. Araujo scored his fifth of the season as Nautico condemned Atletico Goianiense to another defeat. Sao Paulo restored some pride after their Copa do Brasil elimination by Coritiba as they triumphed 3-1 over Marcelo Oliveira's side. Figueirense came from behind to draw with Vasco da Gama 1-1 while the match between Sport Recife and Corinthians ended by the same scoreline. Palmeiras' second-string team lost 1-0 to Ponte Preta, but they could secure Copa Libertadores football by winning the Copa do Brasil in midweek.

Player of the Round

Following the departure of Elano to Gremio and the possibility that Ganso's time at Santos may be at an end, Felipe Anderson made a fantastic claim for the attacking-midfield role in Muricy Ramalho's team with an impeccable display against the Porto Alegre outfit. With Neymar also off to participate in the Olympic Games the 19-year-old will now no doubt be rewarded with a consistent run in the first team after two great goals and a hand in Neymar's strike made for a hugely impressive display from a player who has promised a lot.
