Former Real Madrid and Roma right-back Cicinho is happy to be Sport Recife's latest recruit, as the Pernambuco giants made official their signing of the 31-year-old ex-international.
A note on Sport's official website revealed that the right-sided defender had completed a free transfer to the Brasileirao newcomers, with whom he has signed a contract until July 2013. Cicinho had been at Roma since 2007, but was loaned out to Sao Paulo and Villarreal.
Questioned at his official presentation on Friday, the player made clear his determination to help the Leao do Norte succeed in 2012.
"Sport is a club with a lot of history. I cannot come here and say that I have been thinking about leaving for another team. Sport are one of Brazil's biggest clubs and the proof is there in their titles," he affirmed.
"They recently lifted the Copa do Brasil and I am here to try to help the club to once more put their name at the top. You can be sure that we will be fighting for the top positions until the end."
The player's time in Italy was marred by problems with alcohol, but when questioned on the issue, Cicinho dismissed suggestions that he has something to prove.
"The problem I had was for two months. Now I am recovered thanks to a lot of help from my wife. I have a new life now. I want to show that Cicinho has come to Sport thinking about playing. My first goal is to win a place in the Sport team here."
The right-back has played 15 times for Brazil, including two appearances at the 2006 World Cup which ended with elimination at the hands of France.
