Orlando Pirates caretaker coach Augusto Palacios says his team will avenge last Premier Soccer League (PSL) season’s defeat to Ajax Cape Town when the two sides meet on Friday night.
The Urban Warriors thumped Pirates 3-0 in the corresponding fixture in 2010-11, courtesy of Khama Billiat’s brace and another strike from George Maluleka.
However, The Buccaneers had the last laugh in winning the League title, and they will need a result in Cape Town on Friday if they hope to defend that trophy.
“History is there for people to remember the past – past is past!” Palacios said on the club’s official website.
“Ajax got the better of Pirates last season, but that is history and on Friday we open a new chapter. We cannot dwell too long on the past because we have a job to do and a new 90 minutes to play.”
He added, “Looking at the two teams, we can all expect a great game of football where the team that wants it the most will win.”
Pirates currently lead the log standings on 48 points, two ahead of Mamelodi Sundowns. Ajax are struggling down in eighth place on 36 points from 25 games.
