Live Commentary

  • FULL TIME! That's it, Wolves avoid equaling Sunderland's unwanted record of 14 home defeats in a Premier League season, though they have been totally outclassed this afternoon. David Moyes will surely be pleased with his side's performance if not the scoreline. A seventh placed finish is still in their hands. Final score Wolves 0-0 Everton
  • 90' + 2'
Two minutes to play and its the visitors doing all the pressing as Pienaar forces a corner, Wolves clear comfortably
  • 90' + 1'
Four minutes of added play as this game just begins to amble towards its conclusion
  • 90'
Closing stages at Molineux as Wolves look to nick an unlikely winner. The attack begins promisingly but Ebanks-Blake inexplicably misplaces a pass which drifts out of play. That just about sums up the afternoon and perhaps even the season for Wolves
  • 87'
Play resumes with Everton giving the ball back to Wolves as Heitinga jogs back onto the field to a chorus of boos from the home crowd, that's just about the most noise they've made all afternoon.
  • 86'
Slight stoppage in play here as Jonny Heitinga lands awkwardly after challenging in the air with Kevin Doyle. The big Dutchman gingerly gets to his feet and hobbles off to receive treatment from the sidelines
  • 83'
Great play as Leon Osman makes a fool of Richard Stearman, skipping by the defender and leaving him on the floor. Osman looks up before chipping the ball back to Gueye, but the Frenchman's effort is blocked on its route to goal
  • 81'
Just 10 minutes of the 90 left to play here and if they continue to create chances at the rate they have been Everton are sure to have a few more great chances to win this game
  • 80'
Yet another great chance for Everton! Jelavic produces some fine target-man play as he lays the ball off for Leon Osman. The midfielder breaks through and squares the ball across goal but Denis Stracqualursi couldn't make up the ground and the chance goes begging
  • 78'
Steven Pienaar showcases some great footwork in the box to wriggle free of two Wolves defenders, the Everton man opts to try and beat de Vries at his front post and stabs his effort wide, perhaps he would have been better off looking up and picking out a team-mate
  • 75'
Ironic shouts of 'olay' from the home crowd as their side mount an impressive attack, though the move peters out as Tim Howard comes out to collect Karl Henry's cross
  • 73'
Everton have the ball in the net for the second time this afternoon, yet for the second time this afternoon the linesman chalks it off! Great work from Jelavic as he turns provider with a great run down the Everton left before cutting back for Stracqualursi, The big Argentinean slides the ball home though his effort is disallowed with Fellaini judged to be in an offside position in the build up to the goal
  • 72'
Best chance of the half as Jelavic is released by Pienaar, the Croatian gets his head down and strides towards goal, leading Elokobi in his wake, though the forward drags his effort wide
  • 71'
    SubstitutionMichael Kightly Anthony Forde
  • 71'
Everton have probed and probed all game but they are just unable to break down the Wolves defence, with at least seven Wolves defenders behind the ball at all times. The Toffees clearly beginning to grow frustrated as Fellaini fires well wide from all of thirty yards
  • 69'
Tim Cahill's afternoon is over as Magaye Gueye comes on in his place. The Australian hasn't been at his best today with the majority of Everton's attacks coming through Pienaar and Jelavic, he has worked hard though nevertheless
  • 68'
    SubstitutionTim Cahill Magaye Gueye
  • 67'
Michael Kightly tries his luck from range but the midfielder's effort is well off target. He instantly looks up to the bench and signals he needs to come off, looks like a groin strain
  • 64'
Cause for optimism for the home crowd as their side looks much more composed and comfortable in possession this half. Still yet to call Tim Howard into action though
  • 61'
Ebanks-Blake enters the fray as Terry Connor makes his second change of the game. The forward is instantly in the thick of the action as he drives at the Everton back line, Michel Kightly fails to get a shot away at the end of the move though
  • 60'
    SubstitutionSteven Fletcher Sylvan Ebanks-Blake
  • 59'
    SubstitutionJames McFadden Denis Stracqualursi
  • 58'
Nikica Jelavic forces a save from Dorus de Vries from the free-kick. Change for Everton as Denis Starcqualursi is on for the ineffective James McFadden
  • 57'
Good chance for Everton as Steven Pienaar draws a foul from Karl Henry. The little South African midfielder really has been at the centre of all of Everton's good work this afternoon
  • 55'
First substitution of the afternoon as George Elokobi is brought on to replace Christophe Berra who picked up an injury in the first-half. Club captain Roger Johnson continues to watch on from the bench, surely that says something about where his future lies, or rather where it doesn't
  • 54'
    SubstitutionChristophe Berra George Elokobi
  • 52'
Pienaar is back up and play is back underway. Jelavic is slipped through by Osman but the Croatian is just offside
  • 50'
Slight stoppage in play at Molineux as Steven Pienaar is down in the Wolves half clutching his ankle
  • 48'
Great chance for the home side as Stephen Hunt's free-kick is headed across goal by Steven Fletcher, his header finds Richard Stearman at the back post but the defender's effort is well wide as he lashes the ball back across goal
  • 46'
AND WE'RE BACK UNDERWAY, Wolves kick off for the second half
  • HALF TIME. As one-sided a half as you will see. The home side head for the tunnel with not even a hint of applause from their fans, they have been dominated this half and are only on level terms thanks to an incorrect decision from the linesman as he judged Nikica Jelavic to be offside when replays suggest he was level. Half-time Wolves 0-0 Everton
  • 45'
One minute of added time to be played at Molineux, for all the visitors' dominance I can only recall Dorus de Vries being called into action twice this half, surely something David Moyes will be looking to address at half-time
  • 42'
After a lackluster showing from his team-mates Steven Fletcher decides to take matters into his own hands as he drives at Phil Jagielka, but his left-footed effort is as poor as any and it flies way over the bar
  • 39'
Yet more pressing from Everton but Jelavic and Pienaar are crowded out by seven Wolves men, the home side break but there is no one even remotely close to the opposition's half
  • 37'
At last a little pressure from Terry Connor's men but Stephen Hunt fires Steven Fletcher's knock-down well over the bar
  • 34'
10 minutes to go until half-time and this really has been as one-sided a contest as I've seen, Wolves have seldom got out of their own half and the only real mystery is how the visitors are not ahead
  • 31'
More pressure form the visitors with Steven Pienaar beginning to pull the strings in midfield, surely one of David Moyes' top priorities this summer will be ensuring he keeps hold of the on-loan Spurs man
  • 28'
Big call from the linesman as he judges Nikica Jelavic to be offside from Steven Pienaar's through-ball, the Croatian slots the ball past de Vries but it won't stand, on second viewing Everton are perhaps a little unlucky not to be ahead
  • 26'
First real chance of the game as Richard Stearman's slip allows Steven Pienaar through on goal, the defender gets back though and does just enough to put the Everton midfielder off balance as he fires over the bar
  • 24'
Dorus de Vries produces the first real save of the day as Steven Pienaar opens up his body and curls a right-footed effort towards the top corner, the former Swansea man is equal to the effort though
  • 23'
Just past the halfway mark in this first-half and it's the visitors who are in the ascendancy, with Wolves yet to really get a hold of the game
  • 22'
Another chance for McFadden as Everton win a free-kick 20-yards from goal, but the Scotsman lashes his effort well wide of the target. Both goalkeepers yet to make a telling save this afternoon
  • 19'
Everton respond well to the scare as Jelavic tees up McFadden on the edge of the area, though the Scotsman drags his effort well wide with his weaker foot, never really looked like recording his first goal for over two years
  • 18'
Bit of a scramble from the corner as Tim Cahill's attempted clearing header goes more up than out, Howard fails to gather the ball and Kevin Doyle prods wide from just six yards, a good chance for the Ireland international
  • 17'
Foraging run from right-back by Zubar, forces the corner for Wolves as the big men come forward from the back, Heitinga heads behind for another corner kick
  • 14'
Jelavic again causing problems as he pulls off the shoulder of Stearman and the defender has to lunge to prevent the Croatian's effort heading goalbound, a simple long-ball cuts out the whole of the Wolves defence, surely something Terry Connor will have to address at half-time
  • 12'
The height of Fellaini and Jelavic is causing the Wolves defence all sorts of problems this afternoon, both are winning their aerial battles and combining well, still yet to force de Vries into any real action yet, though
  • 9'
At last something to shout about for the Molineux faithful as Kevin Doyle forces a corner, Stearman and Berra come up from the back but the corner comes to nothing as Fletcher harmlessly heads over
  • 7'
If David Moyes instructed his team to quieten the home crowd early on it hasn't taken much doing. After a promising start the home side have failed to really get out of their own half as their fans watch on silently
  • 4'
First spell of dominance from the visitors and it results in Cahill producing a routine save from Dorus de Vries.
  • 2'
Encouraging start from the home side with Kevin Doyle at the heart of most their good work
  • 1'
KICK OFF, Everton get the game underway at Molineux
  • A win this afternoon for David Moyes' men would all but ensure a seventh placed finish and, subsequently, would see them finish above city rivals Liverpool, quite an achievement considering what a turbulent start to the season they endured
  • Whereas Everton are in fine form having gone unbeaten in their last seven Premier League outings, the same cannot be said of Terry Connor's men. Wolves haven't recorded a win since Connor displaced Mick McCarthy as boss in February, though last week's mammoth effort against Swansea does offer a crumb of comfort in what has been a torrid season
  • For the visitors, David Moyes makes just the one change to the side that drew at Stoke on Tuesday, with Victor Anichebe being replaced by James McFadden. Both Darron Gibson and Phil Neville remain sidelined through injury.
  • Terry Connor makes two changes to the side that drew at the Liberty Stadium just over a week ago, with Stephen Hunt and Ronald Zubar replacing Matt Jarvis and Kevin Foley.

  • Good afternoon and welcome to’s live commentary of Wolves v Everton. Neither of these sides may be able to achieve their respective goals this season - whether it be European football or Premier League survival - but on the evidence of Wolves’ spirited comeback at Swansea last week, and with Everton still in with a shout of finishing above fierce rivals Liverpool, this is sure to be a highly contested affair.
