Bohemians put in a dominant display against a lacklustre UCD side to record an opening day victory as Paddy Kavanagh, Dinny Corcoran, and Jason Byrne all found the net.
On 35 minutes Chris Mulhall had a fierce shot charged down, allowing Bohs to counter. The visitors exploited the space, with Patrick Kavanagh striking a right footed curling shot that Conor O’Donnell had no chance of stopping.UCD opened the second half sharply, with Dean Clarke going close. However, Bohs put the game beyond doubt on 63 minutes when Dinny Corcoran found space on the edge of the area and with three deft touches, struck the left hand post of the UCD goal and the ball rolled in.
The Students had a decent chance of their own soon after as James Kavanagh header on target after Samir Belhout did well to a rare gap in the Bohemians midfield.
Jason Byrne was introuduced on 86 minnutes and within a minute he was on the scoresheet. Steven Beattie had a fine shot saved by O’Donnell but veteran striker Byrne was on hand to head home, much to the delight of the travelling fans .Bohs now find themselves near the top of the table after an opening day victory, but know much more difficult challenges lie ahead.
