Ian Baraclough's side recorded a 3-0 win over their title rivals to return to the top of the Airtricity Premier Division table
A huge crowd came out to the Showgrounds to watch the best that the League of Ireland had to offer, and were rewarded with an entertaining spectacle. An even opening saw both sides go in search for a goal, and the game was end-to-end, despite neither keeper being really threatened. Sligo grew in confidence as the half went on, and finally took the lead when Pascal Millien crossed for Lee Lynch to prod the ball home.
Ger Doherty deflected an Aaron Greene effort onto the woodwork just after the break, but Sligo didn't take long to double their lead. Millien and Lynch were involved again, with the Haitian crossing for David Cawley, who put the ball beyond Doherty.
With just over 20 minutes to go, Cawley was taken out when through on goal by Shane McEleney. The defender was sent off and Ross Gaynor tucked away the resulting penalty kick. The Bit o' Red controlled the remainder of the game, and almost added another as Liam Martin saw his shot go out off the post.
Sligo return to the top of the table, moving three points clear of their rivals, but the margin of victory also helps swing the goal difference in their favour, with the Bit o' Red now one goal better off in the GD column.
