Struggling Shelbourne recorded their first win of the season, beating fellow relegation candidates UCD at Tolka Park
Both sides took a while to settle into the game, but it was the Students who began to take control of the match after a nervy opening spell. Sean Russell created a couple of good chances for the visitors, but it was the home side who drew first blood when Adam Hanlon fired in a long-range shot past Ger Barron. Just before the goal Shels cleared off the line, but chances were few and far between in a scrappy first-half.
The second-half was a much more intense affair, with UCD starting well. David McMillan and Robert Creevy both forced Ger Hanley into decent saves before Shels doubled their lead. A poor clearance from the Students found Stephen Hurley on the edge of the area, who struck to beat Barron.
Shels defended well to stop UCD from advancing late on, and were good value for their first win of the season, seeing them climb above the Students in the table.
