Went the right way for De Las Cuevas' penalty, but couldn't save the spot-kick. Parried away Trejo's one-on-one effort after Arbeloa let him through, but was otherwise a virtual spectator as Sporting failed to trouble Madrid at the back.
Had a good low shot on target in the first half and looked to be pushed as he was set up by Ronaldo later on. Got into several heated discussions with Sporting players but was always a threat and should have scored late in the game.
An assured defensive display from the Portuguese, who came across to cover for the disappointing Arbeloa on occasions and continued his fine partnership with Ramos by making some excellent interventions. Decent passing as well.
Has looked low on confidence lately and was disappointing again in this match. Lost possession too easily and almost let in Trejo with a diabolical error in the first half. Better going forward but his crosses were disappointing again.
Harshly punished for handball as Sporting won - and converted - a first-half penalty. Set up the equaliser for Higuain with a brilliant curling cross and played some lovely long balls from the back. Solid defensively as well.
A good performance from the German in the centre of the park in the absence of Xabi Alonso. He forced several free kicks in important areas and his passing was effective, too. Hardly ever lets his side down.
Anonymous in the first half but improved immensely in the second. Played one wonderful ball into the area for Ronaldo and then set up Benzema's goal with a fantastic pass. A game of two halves.
Saw his free kick denied by a combination of Juan Pablo and the crossbar late in the first half but his passing into the final third didn't really come off and he lost the ball too easily. Was replaced at half-time.
Saw a header from a free kick ruled out for offside in the first half, but was onside to head home Sergio Ramos' curling cross later in the half. Shot wide when presented with a great chance by Ronaldo in the second period.
Well off target with a low drive shortly before half-time and struggled to get into the game at all. Has much more impact as a substitute and that showed here. Replaced at the interval.
Excellent running with the ball and made one stunning pass with his shoulder. Blasted a first-half free kick well over the bar and curled another set piece just over and was off target with a low drive on the turn later on. But scored the all-important second with a fantastic header which allowed Madrid to go on and win. Also set a new league-goal mark and should have had an assist, too, as he set up Higuain.
Was alert and commanded his area well, but looked less assured at set pieces and was beaten twice. One of those was offside, but the other saw Madrid level at 1-1. The saves he made were ones he will have been expected to stop.
Made one vital interception after 12 minutes and was solid as Sporting kept out Madrid for long periods of the game.
Worked hard in a tight five-man defence in the first half but looked to be struggling towards the end and was replaced at the interval.
Could have given away a penalty as he challenged Di Maria in the second half but there looked to be no real contact. Worked hard in central midfield and tried to release the ball quickly when Sporting did have possession.
Gave away one free kick in a very dangerous position, but it was a typically committed display from the former Barcelona defender as Madrid struggled to get beyond Sporting's solid back line.
Got into an early spat with Marcelo and was also booked, but managed to keep his head on the game for the most part and put in a real shift in central midfield as Sporting defended desperately.
The right-back did as well as could be expected up against Cristiano Ronaldo and made several good blocks as well. Was lucky not to be booked.
The full-back worked hard and played his part in a disciplined defensive showing but was far too rash with his tackles. Was lucky not to see red in the first half but was dismissed for a second yellow late in the game. His side's hopes ended there.
Almost found himself though on goal after his pressure in the first half forced Arbeloa into an awful mistake, but he was rarely seen apart from that.
De las Cuevas
Caused Arbeloa problems down the left and gave the visitors a shock lead from the penalty as he dispatched a spot-kick past Casillas. Less impressive in the second period and was replaced by Colunga midway through.
His pressure on Ramos saw Sporting win a first-half penalty and he worked hard to lead the line for the visitors. Grew tired in the second half, though, and was replaced by Andre Castro.

- 18 Albiol
- 15 Fábio Coentrão
- 8 Kaká
Came on for Higuain for the last 15 minutes and showed his quality with some good link-up play.
Á. di María
A half-time substitute, the Argentine went down in the area but there looked to be no contact with Lora. His efforts on goal lacked power but it was his excellent cross which set up Ronaldo for the second. He also forced Canella's red card.
Came on at the break and got a header on target straight away from Di Maria's free kick. Looked a threat throughout and fired the third following a great pass from Ozil. Came close to another late on as well but blasted over.
- 25 Pichu Cuéllar
- 7 Ayoze
Did well after coming on for Ivan Hernandez at the break. Slotted in well at the back but struggled as Madrid turned up the heat late in the game.
Came on for Sangoy in the second half but didn't see much of the ball as Madrid dominated.
- 21 Nacho Cases
Came on for De Las Cuevas with 23 minutes left and showed some signs of his quality. Not enough service, though, in the end. Looked a frustrated figure.
