The keeper could do nothing to stop Sau's awesome strike from finding the back of the net. After that, though, he was never really tested again but it took some last-ditch defending to stop him having a busy evening.
Positioned himself well inside the area and made a number of important interceptions and clearances. He did well to help keep Pinilla quiet for longs part of the game, but was at times sloppy on the ball.
Had an impressive evening at right-back, displaying endless energy as he raced up and down the right flank. He put a number of decent crosses into the area and kept his side of the pitch largely danger free.
Did well to follow up Balotelli's strike and add Milan's second goal from close range. Moments later, however, he allowed Sau the space to fire in the equaliser. Nevertheless, on the whole he had a solid evening and can be pleased with his performance.
N. de Jong
A very robust performance from the Dutchman as he went in hard very early on. He continued to be fully committed in the challenge for the rest of the game and provided the Rossoneri with a pivot in midfield.
Made some powerful runs from midfield with the ball but was often pushed out of possession a bit too easily. He passed the ball capably but could perhaps have impacted proceedings more positively.
The former Ajax man did not push up to offer width down the left often enough. His standard of delivery was not particularly high and Ibarbo caused him some serious problems later on.
An energetic performance from the midfielder as he got up to support the attackers but also chipped in defensively when his team came under pressure. He managed to get away a couple of impressive shots but never looked like beating Agazzi.
Was deployed in a more advanced role than usual and stuggled to influence the game. When he did get on the ball it was the result of dropping deep as he was unable to initiate any creativity higher up.
Held up the play excellently in the wide area to supply the cross for Robinho's opener. His shot was followed up by Mexes for the second goal, and he then netted the winner from close range. His link-up play was excellent throughout.
The Brazilian looked confident on the ball and was keen to run at the opposing defence. He was in the right place at the right time for the opening goal and had a role in second. He went quiet after the break.
Was let down by his defence on the opening goal and was unfortunate that a brilliant save from Balotelli was followed up by Mexes. He did make some good saves and looked confident throughout.
Only pushed forward on occasion as he was mostly penned back by the attacking forays of Abate. He was often outnumbered in the wide areas and stuggle to stop Milan from playing that flank.
The centre-back failed to restrict the space in the channels and his marking was not of the highest standard as Milan moved into an early lead. He was not strong enough in the air and allowed the hosts to bring the play down.
Failed to stop Balotelli from getting the cross in which led to the opening goal of the game. He allowed the Milan players too much time on the ball and his poor headed clearance was slammed into the goal by Balotelli.
Was unable to provide any kind of creative input in the midfield and that left Cagliari short of service to the attack. He started off tracking the ball in midfield effectively but he soon lost interest in the game and was a peripheral figure.
The right-back struggled to get to grips with the game defensively so was keen to try to impact highed up the pitch. He left Robinho completely unmarked as he slid in the opener and that set the tone for the game.
Put in a combative display as he was not afraid of putting his foot in. He did not always seem to be sticking to a simple plan and was caught short by trying to do a bit too much in his team's midfield.
The Uruguayan failed to make any kind of impact on the game as he floated behind the two strikers. He barely saw any of the ball and was withdrawn just before the hour mark following a poor display.
An industrious performance from the Belgian as he hurried about the pitch and challenged impressively, whilst also using possession astutely. He could have had a goal in the second half had it not been for Abate's last-ditch challenge.
Chased down the opposing defenders whenever they got in possession. His work rate was impressive but even more so was his stunning goal which inspired his team to look for a route back into the match.
The Chilean never really got into the game as he lack service for the most part. He did not get the opportunity to test Abbiati and was withdrawn with just under 20 minutes still left to play.
Replaced Sau with 78 minutes gone but was unable to influence the outcome.
Caused problems with his pace after replacing Cabrera just before the hour mark. His pace regularly got him in behind but he missed a great chance to work Abbiati.
Brought on for Pinilla in the 71st minute but his touch seemed lacking in the final third.
