A Michael Rafter double helped the Candystripes continue their impressive start to the season, and keep up the pressure on league leaders Sligo Rovers

Two goals from Michael Rafter gave Derry City a comfortable win over Bray Wanderers at the Brandywell, with the hosts offering good value for the victory, as Bray offered little in attack.

Derry City started better, but it was Bray who had the first real chance when Dean Zambra looked to lob Gerard Doherty. The home keeper was caught off his goalline, but was lucky to watch the ball clear the crossbar. Jason Byrne glazed the woodwork with a shot a few minutes later as the game began to open up. At the other end, stand-in goalkeeper Sean Holmes should really have done better from Michael Rafter's long-range effort, but let the ball slip through his hands to give Derry the lead.

Rafter continued to impress in the second-half, and doubled Derry's advantage in the 55th minute. The forward played a one-two with Patrick McEleney before heading in past Holmes. Bray struggled to create chances to get themselves back into the game, and despite bringing on Ismahil Akinade and Dave Webster around the hour mark, could not find a way to break down the Derry defence.

Victory for Derry sees them move to within two points of leaders Sligo Rovers, with Ian Baraclough's side due to play bottom-placed UCD on Monday evening.
