We've go the full time report and player ratings to come, so stay with us! That's my cue, from me, Keeghann Sinanan, its been a blast!
The match belongs to Bayern and Ribery, as the diminutive Frenchman dominated throughout, with a brace leading the hosts to victory. Schalke showed some encouraging signs at times in the first half, but retracted into their shell after the break and never looked like getting anything from the game after the second goal. Bayern now move second to within a point of Dortmund, who kick off against Hannover in a few minutes.
90' + 2'
90' + 1'
Both sides lose possession in quick succession as they wait for the final whistle to blow.
Only one minute of added time. The Allianz Arena in jovial spirits.
A determined low pass by Ribery into the area is just a bit too hot to handle for Gustavo, whose poor first touch halts a half-chance.
Hilderbrand with another good save!!! Muller with a ball over the top for Robben, who takes it clean through on goal onto his left foot, and forces the Schalke keeper to parry it wide!!
Ribery, hands down, has been the man of the match. His two well-taken goal aside, he's been a constant menace and has left Howedes, one of the league's elite defenders, chasing shadows all game.
Fuchs whips in a free kick with Schalke players queuing up in the area. The ball eventually touches off the back of a Bayern player, and is a comfortable grab for Neuer.
A spot of hesitation at the back from Bayern, as they fail to properly deal with a bouncing ball. Eventually, Neuer strides off his line to smother the ball to his chest.
A slick offensive move launched between Olic and Muller ends up with Robben on the ball and RIbery poised in space for the pass However, the Dutchman miscues badly and the move breaks down.
Schalke do not have the heart or the will to contain Bayern anymore. There are gaps appearing in their midfield and defensive lines, but the pedestrian nature with which Bayern attempt to exploit them tells me that they know the points are safe.
The one way traffic continues as Robben is released towards the byline. RIbery and Gomez line up in the area, but the Dutchman's cross is blocked out.
Schalke looking a beaten force. It's all Bayern Munich as they pack numbers in the opposition half.
3-0....but no, its offside!!! A free kick whipped in by Robben is flicked on by Lahm into the path of Olic, who was just behind the last defender as he strode forward to turn the ball home!
Gomez departs the field of play to end a disappointing afternoon. The much vaunted clash of the BuLi top scorers between him and Huntelaar has not lived up to its billing, with neither forward looking like adding to their 18 league goals.
Farfan!! Much better from Schalke! He cuts in from the right and beats Lahm with consummate ease, sets his sights but fires the ball wide from a good position!
Glimmer of a chance for the visitors...Farfan crosses towards Huntelaar, but his header is weal and misdirected, trickling past the far post.
Robben again trying to advance down the right, but can's make it past the halfway line and is forced to race back and help out in defense.
A round of boos for Manuel Neuer as he prepares to take a goalkick. The stopper has had a solid game against his former club, with a good stop on Metzelder the highlight of a relatively untroubled display.
Schalke have been holding possession in the last few minutes, Patient stuff, but not threatening as Bayern get men back and force them to stroke it near the halfway line.
Boateng and Badstuber double team Obasi and force the substitute to cough up possession. The centre back pairing has had precious little to do after the break.
Robben tracks back well to the corner flag and wins the ball from the toes of Obasi. Bayern try to counter via Alaba, but he fails to pick out Gomez and Lahm who were in space ahead of him.
Bayern continue to stroke it around leisurely, with Robben trying to spark something down the wing. However, Fuchs cuts him out with little fuss.
Ribery and Co. have won every game this season from which they've scored first. That stat looks like continuing here as Schalke look utterly deflated.
Chinedu Ogbuke Obasi
Bayern take the sting out of their tail just a little following the second goal. They have breathing space now, and can play the match comfortably at their own pace. For entertainment's sake, let's hope they get the foot back on the gas!
Assist Thomas Müller
Goal Franck Ribéry
And right on cue, Ribery doubles Bayern's advantage!!! He plays a one two with Muller and advances onto goal from the left, then powers a shot easily past Hilderbrand from just inside the box to grab his and Bayern's second!!!
Bayern are dominating the second half. Schalke look lost for words at the back, and the hosts should be at least 2-0 up.
Gomez again! he takes a long pass into the box, but decided to let it bounce, which allows Schalke time to get bodies back in front of the ball! The shot is blocked, ending what looked like a great chance!
What a breathless start to the second half!!! Four legitimate chances in the five minutes following the interval!! More of the same please!
Here go Bayern again! Ribery enterprising again on the left flank, and squeezes a cross in towards Robben, whose header, repeat, header, goes over the bar!
GOMEZ!!!! Another great chance for Bayern, as Ribery twists and turns at the top of the box before picking out Gomez unmarked yards from goal! He takes the ball on the turn, but instead of shooting takes one stride too many and sees the angle diminish in front of him, then fires a rushed shot into the side netting! Very disappointing!
WHAT A CHANCE!!! With Badstuber still shaking his head on the other end of the pitch, Schalke immediately storm down the pitch. Matip is clean through on goal but places his finish wide of Neuer's post!!
OFF THE BAR!!!! A corner by Robben is headed straight onto the crossbar by Badstuber with Hilderbrand beaten!!!
Here we go again!! Schalke restart the match!!!
A deserved lead for Bayern, it has to be said. They are in the lead thanks to the composure of Ribery and a rush of blood by Hilderbrand who, to be fair, has had a great game otherwise. Schalke have given a good account of themselves with some spirited play, but it has come in fits and starts, and they finished the half on the ropes. Join me in a bit for the second half!!!
No stoppage time here as the ref blows for halftime!
Chance! Lahm cuts inside and advances through the centre to goal! He squeezes a shot through that Hilderbrand does well to push wide! The rebound is collected by Muller on the byline, but his next qction is neither a shot nor cross and sails over the bar.
Half chance for Schalke, as a counterattack sees Huntelaar set up shop inside the box and tee up Fuchs for a piledriver that flies over the bar.
The pressure still on Schalke as a sea of red continues to break on their penalty area. Ribery is playing like a man possessed after that opener, and is at the heart of everything good that Bayern are creating.
WHAT A MISS!!!! Ribery bends an inswinger into Gomez, which Hilderbrand does well to parry, but the rebound spills into the waiting Badstuber on the goalline! Incredibly, the defender fails to sort out his feet and kicks the ball wide! Even though he's not a forward by any stretch, that was embarrassing!!!!
RIBERY!!! Almost a quickfire double from the winger! Robben slips him in wonderfully with a low ball, but Papadopoulos does brilliantly to get a toe onto his shot and divert it just wide of the far post!
Yellow Card Franck Ribéry
Ribery booked for an over exuberant celebration. Never really agreed with that rule myself...
Assist Luiz Gustavo
Goal Franck Ribéry
WHAT A CALAMITY FOR HILDERBRAND!!! Gustavo releases Ribery through on goal with a long ball from defence. Hilderbrand races recklessly off his line, and is beaten by a touch by the Frenchman, who then has an empty net to slot into! 1-0!!!!
...which Metzelder almost heads in but for a good save by Neuer! A goalmouth scramble ensues, which Alaba eventually manages to clear.
Huntelaar does really well to hold onto possession at the top of the box and feed Farfan on the overlap out wide. However, Badstuber manages to head out for a corner...
Long pump from midfield by Alaba picks out Robben in space inside the area. Hearts in mouths for the visitors for just a second, but the Dutchman's control lets him down as the ball trickles out for a goal kick.
Chance for Bayern!!! The hosts are on the counter, with Ribery leading the charge on a 3 on 3 break! He pushes it into Muller, who forces a good save from Hilderbrand! Farfan meanwhile has run back 2/3 of the field to clear the loose ball from the feet of the alert Ribery!
Decent spell of pressure from Bayern in the last few minutes, highlighted by that pair of wasted Muller chances. They've been forced to take their passing game back into their own half for now though.
Muller again!!! Robben leading the charge once more on the right flank, taking on Fuchs once more and playing in the onrushing Muller with a clever low cross! However, Muller can only slice his volley wide!
Yellow Card Marco Höger
Hoger goes into the referee's book for disrupting Boateng
MULLER!!!!! What a chance! Robben squares up against Fuchs and elects to take it inside and slip a pass into Muller. The German is in acres, repeat, acres of space in the box, but rushes his shot on the turn and it flashes wide! Poor defending from the visitors!
Robben and Gomez miscommunicate - the Dutchman wanted to release his teammate with a quick ball, but he instead pulled off to the far post to receive the ball.
Yellow Card Christian Fuchs
Fuchs is the first player to be booked, after taking down Rafinha out wide. Silly for the full back to waste a booking this early, with Robben still to tend with on his flank for the rest of the match.
Still an open contest here at the Allianz Arena. Schalke are having the better of things in the last few minutes, as Bayern's impetus has slowed down somewhat.
Muller with a chance to let fly from the top of the box, but Papadopoulos goes in riskily to close down the opportunity quickly.
Draxler bamboozles Rafinha out wide and puts a ball into Farfan in the area. However, the Peruvian hesitates for far too long and Ribery manages to get it away.
The Howedes - Ribery batte out wide will be a key one to watch today. The two have not really squared up yet, but over the course of 90 minutes, it could well have a say in the eventual result.
A fast-paced start here, as both teams look to keep up an energetic tempo. Schalke were admittedly on the back foot early, but are slowly getting into the game.
Great keeping by Hilderbrand!!! The stand-in saves well against Muller first, after a setup by Ribery, and also holds his nerve to deny Robben almost immediately! Bayern should have scored there!
It's the visitors who look to attack first, as Farfan spots Howedes at the far post and tries to pick him out. However, the skipper cannot get his head to the ball.
Here we go!!!
The teams are out on the pitch and we're about to get started...
Both sides will want to ensure the gap is as small as possible by the time Dortmund kick off against Hannover in two hours' time. Klopp's men lead Bayern and Schalke by four and five points respectively, and a win for either side would see then into second place and ramp up the pressure on the defending champs. It's all set up nicely!
Both teams are the highest scorers in the league, with 49 goals scored for Bayern and 50 for Schalke. However, the latter have conceded 28 goals, double the amount of the former, but remain only one point behind in the standings, and five points off first place.
Meanwhile for Schalke, Huub Stevens has named an unchanged XI from the side that slugged it out for two hours during their 3-1 win over Viktoria Plzen midweek in the Europa League. With injuries to Unnerstall and Fahrmann, Hilderbrand continues between the posts.
So, lineups wise for Bayern, Kroos and Tymo have been demoted to the bench after failing to convince during the 1-0 reverse away to Basel midweek. Muller and Gustavo start in their place, with Alaba also continuing in midfield due to Schweini's continued absence. Otherwise, no surprises in the players that Heynckes has chosen to start.
Schalke (4-2-3-1): Hildebrand; Howedes, Papadopoulos, Metzelder, Fuchs; Matip, Hoger; Farfan, Raul, Draxler, Huntelaar (Subs: Schober, Holtby, Obasi, Moritz, Uchida, Pukki, Marica)
Bayern Munich (4-2-3-1): Neuer; Rafinha, Boateng, Badstuber, Lahm; Luiz Gustavo, Alaba; Robben, Muller, Ribery; Gomez (Subs: Butt, Can, Kroos, Pranjic, Tymoshchuk, Petersen, Olic)
The lineups are in...
