Goal.com took in the action at the Vicente Calderon, where the Blaugrana, down a man and deprived of Lionel Messi, came from a goal down to clinch victory

By Keeghann Sinanan

    Thibaut Courtois

Put off his balance by Alexis Sanchez' equaliser, but otherwise was not really challenged in goal as Barca struggled to get in shots.

  • Diego Godín

    3.50

    Diego Godín

Rose highest to head a corner just wide with the first real chance of the game, and was sturdy at the back, getting first to a number of dangerous balls into the area.

  • Juanfran

    Juanfran

After a relatively sound first half, he fell apart somewhat in the latter stages of the game, as Cristian Tello twice beat him on the left flank in the build-up to Barca's second.

  • Emiliano Insúa

    Emiliano Insúa

Was not much help offensively, but did what he had to do to shoot down the Blaugrana at the other end of the pitch.

  • Miranda

    3.00

    Miranda

Won virtually everything in the air, although that was not the hardest feat against Barca's miniscule front line. Still, he rarely put a foot wrong at the back in what was a very solid display.

  • Tiago
    1
    0
    3.00

    Tiago

Kept the ball moving for his side and was accurate with his distribution, though admittedly, most of his passes were unambitious, and contributed to the tedious nature of the game.

  • Koke
    1
    0
    3.00

    Koke

He was not always provided with the best service, but he caused danger in the Barca ranks one or twice with his dribbling down the right wing.

  • Arda Turan
    1
    0
    3.00

    Arda Turan

Looked sloppy on the ball on occasion, as a lot of what he tried failed to come off, with his team-mates failing to read his intentions. Subbed in the second half.

  • Gabi
    0
    2
    3.00

    Gabi

Set up Radamel Falcao's goal with a quick pass under pressure, but unwillingly contributed at the other end of the field, with an unfortunate deflection to bundle home Barca's second goal and seal his side's fate.

  • Adrián

    2
    3.00

    Adrián

The forward drifted in and out of the game, lacking the consistency to really open up the Barca defence. Came close in the first half with an attempt from 20 yards that was inches off target.

  • Radamel Falcao
    2
    1
    3.50

    Radamel Falcao

Admittedly not his best game of the season, but the Colombian still did what he does best, pouncing on a pass inside the area and slotting come with supreme composure to briefly send his side in front.

Substitutions

  • José Pinto Colorado

    José Pinto Colorado

Made a good save late on to preserve his team's narrow advantage, but was otherwise not a busy man.

  • Daniel Alves
    0
    0
    2.50

    Daniel Alves

Produced little of note in a rather monotonous first half, and departed the game just before the interval with an injury, with Marc Bartra coming on in his stead.

  • Piqué
    0
    0
    3.00

    Piqué

Hardly put a foot wrong at the back, with the lone blot on his performance coming in the build-up to Atletico's goal, as he was caught in the scramble to clear the ball - which he failed to do.

  • Jordi Alba
    0
    0
    3.00

    Jordi Alba

Did not do much wrong defensively, and worked hard to find space in the other half of the field. But, not for the first time, he had precious little targets to pick out in the box once he managed to work himself into a good offensive position.

  • Adriano
    0
    1
    3.00

    Adriano

The Brazilian's mobility was useful in a central defensive role, as he was quick across the ground to make a few vital interceptions to halt Atletico in their tracks. However, he too succumbed to the injury bug and departed around the hour mark.

  • Andrés Iniesta Luján
    1
    0
    3.50

    Andrés Iniesta Luján

As usual, the midfielder was supremely elegant on the ball, which seemed to be glued to his foot, and was always able to weave himself into an inch of space. But his enterprise in the attacking third was at times rather indirect, especially since none of the other forwards seemed in any hurry to move into space.

  • Alex Song
    1
    0
    2.50

    Alex Song

Did his job decently enough, anchoring the base of the Barca midfield and moving back quickly to shield the defence when not on the ball, but really, it was nothing out of the ordinary from the former Arsenal man. Subbed in the second half.

  • Cesc Fàbregas
    2
    0
    3.50

    Cesc Fàbregas

Floated in and out of the game for the most part, but kept his cool for one crucial moment - running onto a ball from Alexis Sanchez and playing a cushioned return pass for the Chilean to score the equaliser.

  • Alexis Sánchez
    3
    0
    3.50

    Alexis Sánchez

The Chilean was as frustrated as the rest of the Blaugrana when his attempts to breach the defence often fell flat. But he would find the breakthrough eventually - starting and finishing a one-two with Cesc Fabregas to stab home the equaliser.

  • Lionel Messi
    0
    1
    3.00

    Lionel Messi

The Argentine was as guilty as anyone in the visiting side of failing to get out of second gear. He labored through the game, and was forced into an untimely departure through injury after all three substitutes were already used. Interestingly enough, his team scored both of their goals after his departure.

  • Tello
    3
    0
    4.00

    Tello Top of the Match

Turned over a new leaf in the second half after a mediocre first, using his considerable pace to drive at the opposition full-backs time and time again. His running down the flanks helped force the eventual game-winner off Gabi.

Substitutions

  • Bartra
    0
    0
    2.50

    Bartra Flop of the Match

Replaced Dani Alves just before half time, but he was partly responsible for the home side's opener after giving away the ball in a dangerous area in his own half.

  • Busquets
    0
    0
    3.00

    Busquets

Performed acceptably in midfield, giving his side some fresh legs and discipline centrally.

  • David Villa
    1
    0
    3.00

    David Villa

Drove a free-kick over the bar, before seeing his shot taking a wicked deflection into the back of the net for the eventual game winner.
