Player Ratings: Fulham 1-2 Man City

Edin Dzeko's late winner ended a run of four games without a win for the Premier League champions as they came from behind to snatch a vital three points

By Jay Jaffa at Craven Cottage

    Mark Schwarzer

Made a number of good stops in the first half, notably from Silva's shot from rangem but looked disappointed to hand Aguero the chance of an equaliser. Could do little with the second goal as Dzeko powered in from no more than six yards.

  • John Arne Riise

John Arne Riise Flop of the Match

Won a penalty, with the emphasis on 'won' as he dribbled inside Zabaleta and fell under the softest of contact. Looked decent going forward but was a worry defensively as Zabaleta found space in behind him time and again. Didn't improve and it was his poor clearance inside the box that presented Dzeko with the chance to win the match.

  • Brede Hangeland

    2.50

    Brede Hangeland

Made a fantastic clearance inside the six-yard box to avert danger inside the first half an hour. Looked like he missed a great chance but Kompany beat him to the header.

  • Chris Baird

    2.00

    Chris Baird

Competed well alongside Sidwell but dropped deeper and deeper as the game wore on and his subsequent passes and clearances were put under more pressure. Looked a bit overwhelmed at times and hobbled off with 10 minutes to play.

  • Aaron Hughes

    2.50

    Aaron Hughes

Stayed compact alongside Hangeland and for the most part kept the City attack with their backs to goal. Is a reliable part of the furniture and a very underrated centre-back.

  • Sascha Riether

    2.50

    Sascha Riether

Had Aguero to worry about in the first half and consequently remained cautious. But grew in confidence and by-and-large did a steady job on the right. City saw much less joy down his flank than Riise's.

  • Steve Sidwell

    2.00

    Steve Sidwell

Bit loose in possession in the early stages, but tried to stay compact with Baird. Clumsy challenge on Zabaleta almost gave the visitors a penalty but he got away with it.

  • Damien Duff

    Damien Duff

Hard working as ever and for the most part kept Clichy at bay but didn't offer Riether as much protection as he needed and was often asked to drift into the middle of midfield to share the workload of Baird and Sidwell.

  • Mladen Petric

    Mladen Petric

Tucked away the opening goal from the penalty spot, sending Hart the wrong way. Troubled Kompany and forced the Belgian into conceding a free-kick on the edge of the box as well as a yellow card. Faded in and out of the game though and was replaced by Kacaniklic.

  • Bryan Ruiz

    Bryan Ruiz

Found room inbetween the City defence and attack and caused problems emulating a deeper-lying, more languid Berbatov, if that's even possible. Put a devilish ball into the near post that Hangeland nearly converted but Kompany got there first, before he faded late in the game. Sparkles and frustrates in equal measure.

  • Hugo Rodallega
    3

    2.50

    Hugo Rodallega

Had an early opportunity as he latched onto a ball over the top but his touch was loose as he tried to round Hart and the chance was lost. Operated well from the left and found Petric with a low cross in the first period before linking well later on with Ruiz and Kacaniklic. Not so much of a goal threat but a reliable outlet.

    Giorgos Karagounis

Came on for Baird with 10 minutes to play and almost immediately brought down Aguero on the edge of the box.

  • Alexander Kacaniklic

    1
    2.00

    Alexander Kacaniklic

Came on with 25 minutes to go for Petric and created a good chance for Ruiz as well as forcing what looked a potential penalty after a handball from Zabaleta.

  • Joe Hart

    2.50

    Joe Hart

Barely had a shot to save in the first period, but picked the ball out of his net following Petric's penalty. Stayed alert during a second-half in which he was little more than a bystander and parried Ruiz's effort away from goal.

  • Vincent Kompany

    4
    2.00

    Vincent Kompany

Looked a yard short of sharpness as he clattered into the back of Petric before picking up a yellow for another trip on the Croat. Happy to see the back of him and passed well for the remainder of the game.

  • Pablo Zabaleta
    5

    Pablo Zabaleta

Hard to blame the full-back for the penalty as he really did very little wrong, but Riise troubled him on more than one occasion. Got forward whenever possible and put in a brilliant low cross into the six-yard box. Got in behind Riise an alarming number of times and his pull-backs really should have yielded a goal.

  • Gael Clichy
    5
    2
    2.50

    Gael Clichy

Had a difficult job up against Duff but coped well. Got forward when he could and hit a rasping shot from wide that called Schwarzer into action. Was a constant outlet down the left but struggled to produce a telling final ball, hitting his crosses too low.

  • Matija Nastasic
    8
    2
    2.50

    Matija Nastasic

Looked the more steady of the two centre-backs which is both a huge compliment and a worry for Mancini. The young Serb looked confident on the floor and dominant in the air.

  • Javi García
    5
    8
    3.00

    Javi García

Not particularly notable in the first half but for a few turnovers in possession. Nearly latched onto a dropped cross by Schwarzer but the Australian keeper smothered him. Passed very well throughout and it is difficult to recall a misplaced pass. Looked very comfortable.

  • Gareth Barry

    Gareth Barry

Didn't look fully fit and seemed in a perma-jog throughout the game. Did what he tends to do by keeping it simple and breaking up play and for that he was an important part of City's team.

  • David Silva

David Silva Top of the Match

Linked well with Tevez and grew into the game. His low drive was well-saved by Schwarzer and he regularly slipped Zabaleta in behind the defence in the first-half. Saw his prod saved but it led to the opener. Pulled the strings throughout the game and even chipped in on the defensive side of the game when needed. The star man.

  • Yaya Touré
    7
    2
    2.50

    Yaya Touré

Wasn't at his best and seemed frustrated with how deep his team were sitting in the first period. Was crowded out on the edge of the box too often. Grew more influential in the second-half as City tried to breakdown the Fulham defence but wasn't as incisive as he can be against a compact backline.

  • Sergio Agüero
    8
    5
    2.50

    Sergio Agüero

Drifted to the left in the first half as he looked to target Riether from the off. Wasn't hugely influential in the first period until he popped up on the stroke of half-time to tap home from two yards. Aside from his tap-in, the only other clear chance he had was at the death but he blazed it high over the bar.

  • Carlos Tévez
    7
    8
    2.50

    Carlos Tévez

Looked to link with Silva as and when he could but was a little more isolated from Aguero. He tested Schwarzer early before tumbling twice in the box to no avail. Was quieter in the second half and replaced by Balotelli with 25 to go.

Substitutions

  • Edin Dzeko

    Edin Dzeko

Came on for Javi Garcia with five minutes to play and almost immediately scored the winner, collecting a poor clearance and whacking a shot on the turn into the top corner.

  • Mario Balotelli
    5
    12
    2.50

    Mario Balotelli

On for Tevez with 25 to play and looked energetic. Didn't get much joy initially but got his head to Clichy's cross to help present Edin Dzeko with the chance to snatch the winner.
