PSV 3-2 Feyenoord: Labyad nets late winner as Fred Rutten's men record vital Eredivisie triumph
A goal at the death from the winger saw the home side claim all three points after the visitors had clawed back from a two-goal deficit

PSV secured three crucial points in a 3-2 win against Feyenoord on Sunday, with Zakaria Labyad netting a late winner for the hosts.
The home side were up 2-0 in the 67th minute, but two goals in eight minutes from Guyon Fernandez appeared to have salvaged a point for the visitors, before Labyad ensures Fred Rutten's men claimed the spoilts.
PSV entered the match with fond memories of Feyenoord’s last visit to the Philips Stadium, which ended in a historic 10-0 victory. The Rotterdam side had since recorded two home victories over the Brabant outfit, however, and were hopeful of leaving Eindhoven with the points.
The hosts who looked the brighter side in the opening stages as poor defensive positioning from the visitors allowed deputy right back Martin Hutchinson an early shot at goal, before Labyad squandered the chance to tee up an unmarked Mertens in the box.
Feyenoord, who were without the suspended John Guidetti, seemed devout of rhythm until the 18th minute, when it took last-gasp defending from Marcelo to keep the visitors from finding the breakthrough. The home defence experienced another nervy moment minutes later, when Feyenoord winger Schaken drew a solid save from PSV keeper Isaksson.
The hosts came within inches from an opener in the 30th minute, when Martins Indi denied Tim Matavz with a goal line clearance. Labyad had found the Slovenian in space, but the centre-back found himself in the right place to keep the score level.
PSV eventually found the breakthrough just one mintue before half-time, courtesy of a close range finish from skipper Ola Toivonen. The Swede was set up by Dries Mertens, who jinked past two defenders before teeing up the unmarked midfielder in the 6-yard box.
Feyenoord started the second half positively, but failed to trouble Isaksson. Fernandez saw his shot fly straight at the stopper, before Bakal fired over after having done well to find space between PSV’s centre backs.
PSV then started to regain some of their offensive momentum, nearly doubling their lead through Dries Mertens minutes later. The Belgian was gifted space to run into by Ron Vlaar, and the winger was unfortunate to see his effort rebound off the woodwork.
The Feyenoord keeper proved beatable however, and Dries Mertens spectacularly made it 2-0 in the 67th minute. PSV’s star man released a thunderous effort from 30 yards out, leaving the Dutch stopper helpless.
The visitors were back in the game just minutes later however, when Guyon Fernandez pulled one back for his side. The Dutchman was found in space by Schaken, and finished with the crispest of touches.
PSV avidly went in search for a third, but instead found themselves conceding again in the 79th minute. Woeful defending from the hosts in their own area saw the ball fall to Guyon Fernandez, who made no mistake and fired home past Isaksson to draw his side level.
However, the home side would not to be denied the win, and made it 3-2 in the 85th minute. Poor communication between Martins Indi and Mulder handed Zakaria Labyad a late opportunity, and the winger fired ruthlessly into the top corner to put his side back in front.
The narrow victory sees PSV pull three points clear of second-placed AZ, with the Alkmaar side set to play later today. Feyenoord drop to sixth in the standings following Ajax’s victory over Excelsior, and now find themselves seven points off the league summit.
