Goal.com was on hand to cast a critical eye over events at the Parc des Princes, where Zlatan Ibrahimovic's double saw the home side progress to the Coupe de France quarter-finals

    Nicolas Douchez

Assured handling on crosses from the goalkeeper, who also made a good save on a low drive from Gignac.

  • Gregory van der Wiel

    Gregory van der Wiel

Able to get himself into a number of encouraging attacking positions deep in Marseille territory. Solid defensively as well to stand up to the threat of the energetic Andre Ayew.

  • Mamadou Sakho

    Mamadou Sakho

Dominant in the centre of defence, proving more than a match for Gignac's physical presence whenever the pair squared up against each other.

  • Maxwell

    3.00

    Maxwell

Not seriously tested defensively, and was a consistent support option out on the left. As usual, his understanding with Ibrahimovic was strong.

  • Zoumana Camara

    3.00

    Zoumana Camara

Though he was turned by Gignac on Marseille's best chance, he otherwise hardly put a foot wrong at the back, getting first to a number of crosses.

  • Blaise Matuidi
    5

    3.00

    Blaise Matuidi

A very tidy performer in the middle of the park, cleaning up loose ends effectively, while keeping the ball moving quickly to his forward players, even sprinting into the offensive third on occasion to join the attack himself.

  • Clément Chantôme

    3.50

    Clément Chantôme

Set the events of the opening goal in motion with an absolutely sublime pass out of his own half that David Beckham himself would have been proud of.

  • David Beckham

    David Beckham

An accomplished display in a deep playmaking role. Typically spot on with his long passes from deep, and always quick to move the ball forward. The veteran Englishman showed that he is more than just a ceremonial signing.

  • Jérémy Menez
    2
    0
    2.50

    Jérémy Menez

Seemed too eager to do things himself, as his running with the ball often resulted in him losing possession. A rather careless display from the winger, despite threatening with his speed.

  • Kevin Gameiro
    3
    1
    2.50

    Kevin Gameiro

Mis-hit a pair of chances that he really should have directed on target. Like Menez, his pace marked him out as a danger, but he was not really able to provide the required quality in attack.

  • Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Zlatan Ibrahimovic Top of the Match

An excellent target man, as ever, with his strength and link-up play providing a solid relief option for his back four, and a chance to turn defence into attack in an instant. Always looked the most likely of his team-mates to make the difference, and did just that with a scrappy finish for the opener. Added the clincher from 12 yards out with a penalty that he himself won.

    Steve Mandanda

His attempted save on Ibrahimovic's opener was rather weak, as he could have done with getting a stronger hand on the finish.

  • Jérémy Morel

    1.50

Jérémy Morel Flop of the Match

One bad decision essentially cost Marseille any hopes of recovery when he, after already being beaten by Ibrahimovic, stuck out a late leg to bring down the striker and concede the penalty that saw his side go two goals behind.

  • Lucas
    0
    2
    1.50

    Lucas

Largely at fault for the first goal, as he lost his footing under physical pressure from Ibrahimovic, allowing the Swede the time and space he needed to pick his spot to slot home.

  • N. N'Koulou
    0
    1
    2.50

    N. N'Koulou

Solid for the best part of an hour, but once his team had fallen two goals behind, carelessness began to creep in, as he allowed the PSG attackers too much space in front of goal.

  • Rod Fanni
    0
    1
    2.50

    Rod Fanni

Made up some good ground in the attacking third, but though he was an oft-used outlet for his team on the right, his final ball was not always of the desired quality, often giving possession right back to PSG.

  • Alaixys Romao
    0
    1
    2.50

    Alaixys Romao

Rather quiet in the middle of the park, as the energy of Matuidi and Co. in the opposite midfield rather overshadowed his contributions.

  • Foued Kadir
    0
    1
    2.00

    Foued Kadir

Never really got into the game, as his most notable contributions were a pair of deliveries from out wide that were easily claimed by Nicolas Douchez. Subbed shortly after his side had fallen two goals behind.

  • Joey Barton
    3
    6
    2.50

    Joey Barton

Nearly got into trouble for an exchange of words with Ibrahimovic. Barton was clearly outdone by Beckham, as he really struggled to provide anything out of the ordinary.

  • Mathieu Valbuena
    2
    1
    2.50

    Mathieu Valbuena

Went fairly close with a clip from the edge of the area, but otherwise, his contributions were rather limited as the support was lacking from his team-mates.

  • André Ayew
    1
    2
    2.00

    André Ayew

Had a forgettable game, as his first touch let him down time and time again, while his slow decision making saw him lose the ball too many times for comfort.

  • André Pierre Gignac
    2
    1
    3.00

    André Pierre Gignac

At the end of most of Marseille’s sporadic openings, and did come close to a fine solo goal with a turn and shot that forced a good save out of Douchez. Also headed away a Camara effort off the line. Some encouraging signs, but it was a frustrating game in the end for him as he ended up on the losing side.

Substitutions

  • Jordan Ayew

    2.00

    Jordan Ayew

An ugly tackle on Beckham earned him a yellow card and sparked a bench-clearing ruckus at the end of the game.
